Gringos are afraid of getting robbed, mugged, stabbed and defenestrated if they go here, can you believe?

I've been to worse in LatAm. I've been to hoods in Juarez, Rio, Rosario, Medellin, Salvador, Guayaquil, etc.

The ONLY time I've ever been "mugged" was when I was just off Paulista Avenue near the art museum in SP and a dude on a bike ripped the phone out of my hand. Luckily it fell to the floor and he just rode on so I picked it up and it wasn't stolen. But yeah the only time I've been robbed/mugged in LatAm was in a nice part of Sao Paulo. And I went into Cracolandia multiple times just to take it in and was never robbed.

muggings happen in nice parts. Who tf is gonna mug poor people in the hoods? People with money aren't there, they are in Avenida Paulista

This is the geolocation of crimes in Brazil:
>murder, shootings, drug traffic: favelas
>robbery, theft: outside favelas

Yeah I think LatAm gets a bad rap because people look at stats with no context. Most murders are cartels and criminals killing each other. It's not like they're like "OMG GO KILL A TOURIST"

I am...

I'm not saying living your life in LatAm is paradise obviously crime and instability affects you. But people who are afraid to step foot in LatAm think you'll get shot out or beheaded by cartels the moment you step foot off the plane
