/extraflags/ - Travel Blogposting general
Tornado edition

Previously on /flag/: >>213020334

>do (You) like going to places, taking photos and blogposting about it?
Welcome to /flag/ + /extraflags/, a lovely general for Extraflags users that combines your passions for geography, maps AND travel by using the Extraflags extension.

Threadly activities include travelposting, urbex, wilderness exploration, hunting for radioactive minerals, (extra)flag collecting, map filling, cycling across Europe, other autistic activities and overall funposting.

>What is Extraflags?
Extraflags is an open-source browser userscript that lets you choose regional flags, like states and provinces, to add to your already existing default country flag.
Turns out, it's very well suited for travel posting because you can flex with the ultrarare flags you're travelling to (rather than using it as a tripcode for posting in other threads)

Instructions and video guides for installing Extraflags can be found here: https://flagtism.gitlab.io/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/
Requests to add or change flags can be made here: https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues

The other day I thought about the same thing, I'd say yes.
Last month, someone posted a layover flag from Singapore and it was fine. (But now that I think about, they didn't post the updated flag fucking hell)

I doubt anyone will ever post Al-Haffah District either way (unless Syria somehow gets accepted to the world, so a Syrian stamp on my passport won't lead to me having issues when I travel)

get this: Iran goes province>county>district>"municipality" (they aren't called municipalities, they are either "cities" or "rural districts" aka villages, not to be confused with the proper districts above them)
now, the three first level as far as i can tell don't have absolutely anything. not even internet presence, even the provinces
but
HOWEVER
the last level, the "municipalities", regularly has websites and logos. i have no idea of the overral percentage but i searched a bit in the not so random Damavand District and i was able to find 5 out of 6 municipality websites, each one having a more or less logo (here the winner is definitely the gorgeous seal of Damavand, which even has a proper flag)

basically you need to download every single municipality flag from crwflags
https://crwflags.com/fotw/flags/es(prov.html
under every single province you should find "municipal flags" or something

i already have a folder prepared in 2023 with every flag/CoA pulled from wikipedia. i don't think there's a big need to redo that too, but if you really want you could do that as well

the fact is, recently i discovered that a lot of flags on crw are not on wikipedia so that has to be done

the name standard this time is that of OpenStreetMap, not wikipedia. the reason is that spanish wikipedia uses "Javea" while catalan wikipedia uses "Xabia", but neither is the official name: the official name is "Xabia/Javea" and OSM has those
even if you get some names wrong it's not a big deal thou, my script detects them

to type "/" in a filename (which you usually can't) use a @ instead , i will replace the @ automatically with " ΜΈ "
i will provide lists of OSM names soon

just save the flags with the names used by crw, the / names aren't many i will just catch them automatically. if you happen to notice there is a double name just copypaste from here the correct form https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues/1174

this way you shouldn't need to use any @ because those names already have the special slash that can be used in filenames

Anonymous Italy No.213418273 >>213419026
>>213416379
>Wouldn't it look much better like pic-related?
it would but the reality is that that's not a flag, it's just a background made by the graphic designer. i can't upload a flag that doesn't exist you know, it doesn't feel right

the current logo is white, and i can't have a white logo on white background, so i have to invert the blue with the white in order to obtain a colored logo on white background. there's no other way around

you could argue the "blue logo" doesn't exist either but 1) it's way more acceptable 2) graphics designers often make multiple designs and easily switch between them
heck there was a case in Turkey where the inverted logo turned out to be the actual flag

One more for the "places I saw on coins/banknotes series"

I was going through the old photos I took, and I saw an old ship wreck photo I took in the Kyrenia Castle (Girne if any Turkish nationalists are reading this). I didn't think it was important, but I decided to look up the castle if I saw anything important there.

Turns out, this ship was from the 4th century BC, and it's one of the earliest Greek ships ever excavated in such complete form. AND it is featured on the Cypriot (under Greek/EU occupation, liberation pending) Euro coins.

My dad always insists on taking my photos, and I have a photo with the ship wreck with a forced fake smile on my face lmao.

i was just starting to descend the mountain after summiting, and i heard a bang. I thought a rock was falling down and then i see a fucking person tumbling down at crazy speed like a dead weight for dozens of meters. freaked the shit out of me. stopped at probably 30 meters above my position
another hiker that was climbing with me and was closer went there, he was dead on the spot

i had been to the place he fell probably 5 minutes before him. althou i don't remember any particularly dangerous steps in that section, in fact another hiker we talked to later that saw the whole scene told us he was trying to do something stupid in a steep gravel slope

I used to be broadly interested in other cultures (a "dabbler" as they call on /lang/) and I gradually came to realize that they (and Central Europe broadly) have the superior world culture.
