in italy the slow old ass trains are going at 180kmh or some shit like that, the fast ones at 250-300kmh

Our trains are actually slower than that lmfao. The tracks haven't been maintained since the end of the war, so if a train goes any faster than 70 - 80 km/h, chances are it'll derail at a turn.

>>213380405
They literally talk about it all the time, though. China's HSR buildup is a very hot topic in both rail and climate circles.

it makes sense because we are a densely populated country. I dont know how efficient would real fast trains be if they stop pretty often and distances arent really serious.

Maybe you are used to it or traffic isnt really bad but sitting a few hours every morning in a highway seems to kill of boredom (and pollution) plus trains are full of qts

I think there's also a cultural issue at play. In Greece, the belief that railways are a relic of the 19th Century is very pervasive and constantly reinforced through the absolute state of our rail infrastructure. This has resulted in people driving everywhere, and in turn demanding more and better road infrastructure. This widens the gap between road and rail even more, creating a vicious cycle that has effectively locks rail out of any improvements.

It depeneds how bad traffic is in greece. do you have congested dangerous roads? If not then trains are a less obvious choice. Having an alternative to roads could be useful for those who prefer it but that reason only maybe isnt worth the pricetag and time it takes to build a proper system.

Congested, yes. Dangerous, not so much. Accidents do happen, but they're almost always the fault of the driver, who's usually some 80something geezer who can only see 2 meters in front of him. I personally am in favor of building out more rail and making it free to use for seniors, if only to get them off the road.

it's the same in Britian desu, the problem in our cunt is that since we invented rail, all of our rail networks were finished in the 19th century. There's too many bends and meanders which means we have to rebuild vast tracks and there isn't enough money or political will to do it
