Whitepill: Africa's population is overcounted. Most of the postcolonial growth is a sham.
International authorities probably won't admit it for generations.
Imagine this: every African country has been conducting its own census. They have much to gain by inflating stats at the local level, and internationally. Many African states haven't conducted a proper census on decades, or ever.
Put this into perspective: China has a pretty advanced state bureaucracy, but its population is probably 400 to 500 million less than official figures.
Western countries have trouble counting everyone, as well.
