well, can't speak for caribbean indios, but that used to be the case pre-2010, not just because you would always stumble across multiple people you know (and out of their context people is much friendlier), but also because it never was as common as in the USA to go out to dinner, movies, or entertainment, so you would take out as much joy as you could possibly can

nowadays on the one hand, zoomies are so fucking poor they dress up to go for groceries and make some content (selfies, latte-posting, a meme about this same topic) on their way home, and on the other hand either urban rich or self-aware state bureacrauts who wear unkept fast fashion or athleisure to signal they live near the gathering spots (which have insane rent)
