I read something that makes it easier to understand. When making cake batter, sometimes you get bubbles in the batter. Then, when the cake expands as it heats up in the oven, these bubbles become voids inside the cake. It's essentially what we are in, and it isn't really a special phenomenon. There are plenty of these bubbles everywhere. But yes, we are quite isolated. It's impossible for us to leave our galaxy within the current understand of physics regardless so this does not matter.
