But everyone uses them, wouldn't it be better to pick your own stocks and plus an index fund to get better returns than everyone else

I'm sure once I'm 45 and wasted my youth never making any big purchases, never going out, never traveling, never having any fun, and instead investing every last cent into index funds that yield 10% return annually I'll thank myself. It'll all be worth it to have a few more dollars than Mr. Jones next door, and I'll try not to think about how my boss makes double my life's savings every single year by coming into the office once a month between his vacation trips.

Index funds place your money (in incredibly small amounts) into companies I don't agree with
Brazilian banks routinely pay out ~12% per year for no risk CDs if you can stomach the real/dollar fluctuations

If you're a poorfag it's better to buy crypto than index funds. 10k in index funds isn't going to change your life, but 10k put in bitcoin 6 years ago would already be worth like 120k

What big purchases do you even need? Literally the only thing I can think of is a car, but even that shouldn't cost you more than 20k max unless you're retarded

right. 10% a year is really not that much. if you put $100 in one and hold it for 10 years, you'd only have $260. that is barely enough to counter inflation... REAL inflation, not whatever the fuck they calculate to keep the masses from rioting and decapitating the rulers.
any real winnings require balls, not index funds.

rent/lease a car when you need it occasionally.
a car makes sense if it earns you money or you have several family members to get use out of it.

Go to the local casino. Put $100 on red and watch as you win more money in 5 minutes than you would in 10 years with an index fund.
