GDP is a meme. Market cap reveals a countryโ€™s true weight in the capital-driven world.

Japan's $6.7T market cap is double Germanyโ€™s $2.9T, which will upset GDP purists. Japan punches above its weight in corporate scale, and investor participation.

GDP doesn't measure what you think it does. It's not a metric for what you can afford or life quality.

Japan is deliberately doing the weakest currency now. It's intentional to boost exports and prop up stock market valuations, and so far, itโ€™s working within that goal.

Weak Yen improves the earnings of Japanese exporters when profits earned abroad are converted back into Yen.

When I met my fiancรฉe she in Tokyo she was working a bog standard office job, often 10 hours a day plus a lot of overtime. She had a tiny apartment (16 sqm) and basically never did anything else except sleep, go to work, help her neighbor lady out with chores and she was skinny as a bone. And that's apparently the norm for a lot of people in Japan.
