Fun Finland Fact: in the 1930s Finns thought American beavers and European beavers could mix so they imported a bunch of American beavers to replenish the beaver stock
it turns out...they can't interbreed and now Finland has a population of American beavers in certain parts of the country

isn't it what happened with the grey and red squirrels in England?
They imported american grey squirrels in England thinking they would mate with the british red squirrels... turns out they hate each others and the bigger grey squirrels invaded and stole all the ressources from the smaller red squirrels who fled away and are now endangered.

any ressemblance with anything else is purely coincidental

not really because Eurasian beavers and Canadian ones are almost indistinguishable in looks and behaviour. Only genetically do they differ significantly.
