What are some popular sayings in your country? Here we have the idiom "get some rye in ones wrist" to denote someone getting physically stronger. It is used like so "playing ice hockey will put some rye in his wrist".
How normal are those types of sayings in northern europe?
i ask because here we make up sayings for everything, and a dude told me that when he went to the netherlands he said "It's colder than a penguin ass" and everyone laughed like it was the best joke ever

They are common everywhere. Obviously the funniest guys you know can come up with them off the cuff. Apparently a lot of the ones that caught on in Finland were coined by servicemen during the wars >"It's colder than a penguin ass"
in the 2000 film Men of Honor they said "colder than a polar bears asshole"
my grandfather used to be a contractor and he would often speak of the hired help "fucking the dog"
I think he picked up after numerous fishing trips to ontario
