We're much closer to England culturally than we are to America. Although, since both America and Australia are young countries, there are some resemblances in the overt self-confidence and lack of refinement. That just seems to develop in young countries.

There's probably more insecurity here around well educated Brits. They're also much more common in universities. Americans are strangely absent despite having such a large population and our countries being so close.

Australians generally support Labour policies like: respectable minimum wages, universal healthcare, paid sick leave, etc.
Australians are generally okay with government projects such as major infrastructure construction, there's no autistic "PRIVATISE EVERYTHING" mentality.
Australians are very unambitious and laid-back, you'll be scoffed at or scorned if you dare to dream of achieving big things or display any sort of pride in your achievements.
Australians, the 90% who live in the coast that is, are allergic to guns and there's no sort of gun culture to speak of here. Only farmers use them, and they're viewed as utilitarian boring old tools rather than any sort of symbol of "freedom" or toys like Americans like to treat them.
