Marx never thought that communism would be established immediately after the revolution, but that there'd be an intermediary phase between capitalism and communism referred to as the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Basically the working class overthrows the capitalist government and establishes a workers' government in its place, seizing control of the state and the economy and expropriates the bourgeoisie.
"Communism" as a mode of production cannot be achieved until capitalism has been defeated globally and every bourgeois state has been replaced with a proletarian one.

The goal of communism was always warring against "imperial capitalist" countries until world communism was achieved. Social Darwinism at its possible peak.

Fear of post-nuclear apocalypse is what defeated communism. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

That's why they miss Stalin, because he would've ordered for the bombs to fly from Cuba in the US and the rest of the rocket/missile arsenals in Europe to fire away freely against Western Europe - even at the price of mutual destruction.
