Did anyone else back in school in the 90's have charity drives to collect food to send to Romania? I remember I used to regularly pray for starving Romanian children because I thought it was some African country. Seems absurd in retrospect, was Romania really that bad in the 90's?

yes, we had charity stuff for Romanian orphanages up until the early 2010s
