I have been solo abroad loads of times but mostly on business.
I'd suggest, go to big cities and stay in hostels. In hostels opt for a shared room instead of a solo. Lurk in the lounge, especially in the early evening and try to get a group to adopt you just as they are leaving the hostel. If that fails you can go to one of the comedy evenings that pubs have in big cities.

I mean its also fee-free if you have money in your wise from the perspective country. Its literally one card for all the country coins in the world and instant money exchange via the app. Its literally impossible to get fees for it.

Oh yea if you plan to sleep outside or in a tent you should absolutely have a foam mattress, even more important than sleeping bag. You will not be able to sleep without a foam mattress to insulate from the cold seeping into your body through the outside surface. I had about 3-4 hours of sleep in 3 days on a mountain cause I was a dumbass and thought only sleeping bag is good enough. I was stumbling my way through some pretty narrow paths by the third day.

idk if I sleep outside its on a beach or a wooded area in the countryside. I travelled from paris to orleans on foot and I just went to the nearest wooded area outside a village and slept there.

I dont know about the rest of your questions. I only ever booked in advance. If you are lucky that they have a free room I guess you can book then and there.

Also another tip if you go backpacking on mountains, some of them have shepperds and shepperd huts. If it is off-season for shepperds then they are not there and you can just go in and stay there. Just dont be an asshole with the place.

This is specifically for carpathian mountains. Dont know how it would play out in a more western country.

Very good advice.
My brother who's very introvert and shy decided to do something like you last year, he went to a solo trip to Belgium, alone. I was scared he would feel lonely because with solo trip it's a hit or miss, depending if you find people to tag along, but he had a great time thanks to the hostelworld app.
Basically it's an group chat that puts you in contact with other people that are solo traveling in the same area, so you can talk with them and join groups if they're making a pub crawl, going to a museum, a park, and so on, it's all solo travelers so it's people eager to meet new people. He even got laid once and believe knowing my brother that's a massive feat.

Otherwise you can try the classic way of meeting people when solo travel which is >>213543903 but it's a luck dependant strategy and you have to be somewhat extrovert to make it happen.

Good luck anon, try to post on /trv/ for advices, it's a slow board but full of nice people

Are you sure its the same app as the one Im talking about? This one is just to search a place and it will give you the hostels and hotels in the area and you can book from the app or search for cheaper prices in other sites if you feel like it. Dont really know if it has group chat features.

Yes, that's the app you're talking about. But the difference is that until some years ago hostelworld was just another tool to find rooms and hotels like booking, trivago and Airbnb, but recently they put this new feature that is a real game changer for people who are solo traveling
