Nazism was German romanticism I'm pretty sure they prided themselves in medievalism and Arminius defeating Rome and whatnot. Italians never held a grudge against Germans. On the opposite they just shrugged it off, gave them the titles to call themselves roman and let them be happy with the ruins of the empire they conquered.
Carolingian conquest of gault and by extent the rise of medievalism is probably one of the most relevant events on European history

Well no shit, Germany is at the core of Europe, whenever something radiates outwards is almost always from there, no one of the peripheral powers to be wanted Germany to unify, let alone begin a imperial expansion because it could easily take them all out as proven by the nazis taking all of Europe at once.
The only country comparable in potential was/is Russia
As for regular history and achievements they are far from short on those. From the printing press triggering the end of the middle ages and the begging of renaissance as literacy became widespread to nuclear fission and whatnot
