There would be no racism between Europeans and Anatolians and Levantines and Egyptians if they had all remained Christian.
Any racism that did exist would be as trivial as the "racism" between Mediterraneans and northern-Europeans or between eastern Euros and Western Euros.
Islam existing created much more racism and conflict in the world.

I feel like it's due to the 90+ISH years of secularism that the country had pre Erdoğan
Also the ww1 grudges and the Arab revolt plays a part to it as well there's a reason your average middle easterner slash Muslim of the Indian subcontinent hates Mustafa Kemal but LOVES Erdoğan
For example pre/high schoolers wearing headscarves was borderline unimaginable now it's a regular sight
If anything turkey is a living breathing identity crisis one part of it wants to be basically a football playing Pakistan one wants to be like germany
