Why South Slavs still aren't considered Mediterraneans?

At least Serbians and Bolgarians who I met in real were looking like Southern Europeans and I would easily confuse them with Greeks, Italians and Spaniards

Spain, Portugal and southern Italy were also under Muslim influence in the Middle Ages, but they are nonetheless the most Mediterranean of the Mediterraneans.

Have you considered that you have to have access to Med sea to be considered Med and that it's not really referring to genetics but shared Romance culture and geographical belonging?
Montenegro and coastal Croatia are considered Med however people usually think of Italy, Spain , France and Greece because of size and relevancy.
Inner Balkans is similiar to Med countries in regards to laziness.

Ofc, Russians have a lot of Baltic and Finnic admixture, Serbs have zero of that, Serbs have some of ANF genes, Russians have little.
Regardless nobody can really say what shapes phenotypes, it's not just genes, it's environment as well, even shit like sun exposure, geography, etc.
There's zero reasons for either to look alike since Slavs diverged thousands of years ago, and also, I doubt Slavs looked the same even then judging from descriptions.

I can usually tell apart Russians on sight here, msotly because they also dress like hipsters.
