Today is 1 malinalli (1 grass) of the tonalpohualli (sacred calendar) governed by Patecatl (Medicine Dweller) and linked to the south as well as the start of the 1 malinalli (1 grass) 13-day period ruled over by Mayahuel (The One who Surrounds the Maguey) during the xiuhpohualli (solar calendar) year of 13 calli (house) and the 9th day of the month of panquetzaliztli (raising of the banners) dedicated to Huitzilopochtli (Hummingbird of the South). The Lord of the Day is Xiuhtecuhtli (Lord of Fire) and the Lord of the Night is Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror).

Interesting names. Especially
>Lord of the Night is Tezcatlipoca (Smoking Mirror)
Did they name it such because of how the moon at night mirrors the Sun at day, and how it's also literally a mirror of Sun's light?
interest

I like looking for patterns in foreign words so I tried doing so for these
>Pohualli - Calendar
>Xiuh - Sun/Fire
>Tonal - Sacred
>tli - of the
I assume the format is "X of Y" is "Y-X-tli" or "X-tli-Yi" in the case of Smoking Mirror
>Huitzi or Huit - South
>Lopocht or Zilopocht - Hummingbird
>Panquet - banner
>Zaliz - raising
>Tezca - Mirror
>Tecuh - Lord
>Poca - Smoke
Now I'm no linguistics nut and I didn't look anything up so I might be totally off here but I still figured I'd post my thoughts

Tezcatlipoca is indeed associated with the night and darkness, the occult and the future unknown and he is ruler of the North but in this case the Lords of the Night are 9 deities that preside over each night in a 9-night cycle that repeats.

Many places in my country have Nahua names. I wonder if it's because their influence reached here or if it's because the people who named them got creatively ruined. Either way it makes me lazy to research it.
