no, it is totally not the same, because no one recognized Vilnius as part of Lithuania in 1920...except for Soviet Russia. It was no man's land after the October revolution and collapse of the Russian Empire so Lithuanians didn't have any more rights to this land than we did

let's assume that Polish govt used that as an argument
but it would be ridiculous and the US probably wouldn't even respond to that, which means we wouldn't be in dispute because for a dispute you need two parties to be involved. Same with Vilnius in the interwar period, it wasn't a question for Poland at all, because it belonged to Poland and was formally part of Poland, recognized by the League of Nations and all important countries. >German occupational forces retreat back to Germany after WWI
>Polish militias take over the city briefly before it falls to Bolsheviks
>Polish forces kick them out in the eastern offensive before Lithuanians arrive
>actual war with Lithuania breaks out over it, western mediation leaves Vilnius in Poland
>in the mean time there's also a Polish coup attempt in Lithuania meant to basically turn Lithuania into a vassal state
>also an anti-Lithuanian uprising in Suwałki breaks out
>then Bolsheviks start a counteroffensive and take the city back, making a deal with Lithuania where they hand the city including the entire region to them just to have them out of the way while they fight Poland
>after getting BTFO on the Vistula they start a panic retreat east
>western peace keepers tell advancing Poles to not start shit with Lithuania again and leave them be
>Piłsudski orchestrates a special military operation in Lithuania by telling some Polish troops to take the city while claiming they're acting completely on their own
