What does it do? Seems like a huge waste of $300B. It's clearly not for defense since there isn't a navy that can physically reach American shores, neither does it do much in helping the US project power (US power projection is done through land military bases with the army/airforce)

The only country with fighters that could engage them is China, and America already showed it's too pussy to start a war with them because it knows the PRC would dominate.

This is every low level grunt in every military ever doe. That's the whole point of training, to turn dudes into pawns. You actually don't want individual soldiers making decisions by themselves.

grunts yeah shure, but china still train fighter pilots this way. the radar and daralink capabilites on modern jets are there so they can have full situational awarness and cut out the middle man to tell them whats going on and what to do.
even on grunt level most modern militaries have changed their doctrine from
>protect this bridge, make shure no enemy cross it
>enemy cross somewhere else...
to
>make shure no enemy cross this river, use all means available
thoose are quite different even if they still only follow orders.

Navies are what make great powers great. Lackluster infantry performance doesn't really matter if we have the capability to raid your coasts and bomb you from 50 miles offshore.

Are you aware that the GDP of Yemen, which Houthis don't even control fully, is only $21bln? You would need to drop a nuclear bomb to cause that damage
