100%. Toki Pona and conlangs in general are full of the type of people that do shit like complain about Interlingua (a conlang specifically intended as a simplified neo-latin for maximum comprehension by romance speakers) claiming that it’s “too eurocentric.”

Kek. It really betrays how rent-free we are in Euro brains when they do shit like attempting to correct our grammar.

It’s because grammar is something they can latch onto as either “correct” or not, so if they autistically memorize English grammar in compulsive education they think they can flex on Americans. All along their accent is shit and their usage of vocabulary is often bizarre and stilted sounding because they don’t read or watch enough stuff in English. Like, anything moderately upper register, formal, or classic literature in English will say “a BLANK people” or “the history of the Germanic peoples” for plural. It just shows that, for all their swaggering pretensions, the ESL’s reading level is at-or-below many American middle schoolers.

How hard is it to just be humble and not overstate your abilities guys? You don’t have to be better than us at English, we know it’s not your native language.

I like to be in the reverse situation.

I say something gramatically correct that most people think is wrong, and then correct them that actually im right.

Anonymous Portugal No.213620379 >>213620448

its a portuguese phrase. (I'm PSL). The phrase is just the verb ter plus any regular past participle for verbs that have 2 past participles.

There are some verbs with multiple past participles -- one regular, one irregular.

The general rule is that two verbs (ter and haver) always use the regular participle for forming compound tenses, and other verbs that can make use of participles (ser, estar, ficar) always use the irregular form.

Using ser:
>Eles foram pagos (correct)
>Eles foram pagados (incorrect)

Using ter:
>Eu tinha pagado (correct, but many people will say this is wrong. This is my trolling tactic)
>Eu tinha pago (coincidentally, this is actually correct, because this participle is exceptional, and tends to also be used for the verb ter)

So to troll I just use ter with pagado and oftentimes I get corrected. Then when I give other examples of other verbs, and their participles, the person realizes I'm not wrong.

My opinion:

Popular languages are simply popular for a reason. Now that I have learned some of the major ones up to C-Level you learn to appreciate the easy access to media, presence of huge diaspora populations and the abundance of counties to travel to. There already is a steep drop-off in accessibility just by avoiding the major colonial languages. Imagine learning the language of a country that publishes 2 books and one movie a year with unpleasant people with a country where there is nothing to see.
