Not really, parents here usually raise their kids just for fun because they already have everything they wanted. Knowing the fact that we will move out when we are around 18 and go to college and have our own lives while we visit a couple of times a year on holidays. I know thirdies are literal slaves to their parents who will massage their feet and clean their ass on command. I've never understood why especially knowing the fact those same kids were beaten growing up.

if your village knew that you don't help your parents in their old age, they would collectively punish you and the type of this punishment depends on their cultural rules, it could vary from simply ostracism and not helping you in any way (which basically means death in thirdielands where an individual is not able to survive alone) to straight out killing you.

You underestimate the power that abusive parents have on people. It becomes a very deep trauma they cannot get rid off. Only a handful of based free thinkers (like Willem Holleeder) stand up against their abusive parents. At best, some cut ties, but most will forever carry the guilt, shame and trauma.
