The niche communities are actually decent, but some subs have been completely taken over by ideology, even when the board originally had nothing to do with it. Like r/pics, which OP's image is from, is 100% politics. "A place for photographs and images" the description reads, where an anti-Trump picture will get 150k upvotes and a picture of a sunset will get 10 upvotes. It's bizarre to watch really. r/Norge, the Norwegian subreddit, is so left-leaning it makes /pol/ look like Mensa in comparison. Strange place, and I'm so happy 4chan went back up so I can talk to normal people again.
