Yep Paris sucks. Like London or Berlin do, probably even worse. Ten years ago my brother was finding it funny that sometimes he was the only white person in the metro. Now that he left he said it was because he "didn't want his children to see so much poverty". I haven't been in a while but last time I went it was like visiting another country, I felt like I was a foreigner. They even have ads in English and street vendors like in India. Your countrymen seem to like the rest of France though, in the summer there's like 1 car out of 10 with Dutch plates where I live (somewhere between the center and the south-west of France). The rest of France outside of cities of 1 million+ inhabitants is pretty decent.

From what I heard or read, France has the largest number of Afro-Europeans on the continent (but also the most right-wing youth with Poland, Italy and Germany btw). So Norway is probably ok. But they also don't like immigrants in general and are kind of rednecks.

I dreamed about Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes last night

Lyon is a pretty big city so it has shitty parts but it's still decent for tourists, not a great place to live in. Chambéry is a tourist resort, it's irrelevant, like asking what it's like to live in Ibiza or Times Square. France is not doing great but in rural areas it's still good. Europe is declining but we had a nice run, things change, 22 centuries ago Tunisia was a great place, 8 centuries ago Afghanistan and Mexico were great places, we're just losing for the first time in a long while, that's all. Poland is just a few decades behind.

I think that Poland's best days are behind us and we have wasted the potential we had. From what I can see, France's biggest problem is absorbing its new population. So if you stopped the population influx and did francisation the one you have, you would be gucci. We don't have institutions, political direction, technology, or know-how. We relied on a young, healthy population and price differences, which we wasted. But we can still be gucci, the future is not set in stone. Everyone said that America was finished, but for now, Americans are doing probably best.

Not at all, there are less jobs and they pay less but that's partly why life is better. The rent I pay for a house with a garden wouldn't get me a 13sqm studio in a shitty neighborhood in Paris. I buy vegetables and meat from farms in my area at half the price people pay in supermarkets for shittier products. The less populated part of France is the middle, far north and far south are both industrial (lots of immigrants since the early 20th century, less nature). Land is absurdly expensive in the southeast and south, and in the north it's cold and flat but there might be areas where it's cheap, but that's because there isn't much activity. Being rich always makes things easier but it's not necessary to live decently. You have less purchasing power with 2500 euros in Paris than with 1500 euros in Bumfuck, Indre.

I came back home being more appreciative of my own country, on how far we are catching up.
