most of the time making eye contact won't do shit for you. let's say you make eye contact with some girl in the bus, then what? you will try to cringly approach her in this completely inconvenient scenario?

Just don't look away. You're the alpha male, you could easily dominate her physically and she knows it. There's no reason for you to look away.

That's what I realised recently.
I could approach gals and get numbers in a bar (did that several times), but still without some convenient scenario providing additional context binding us together that would be fruitless, we'd still be complete strangers.
The whole cold approach idea is complete rubbish and you really need to be extremely desperate to approach tens of women in order to actually score some.
Though sometimes of course you see some magnificent woman and start to wonder what could've been, but there's actually zero chance you could get to know her without some pre-text, we don't live in a film.
