I deeply mistrust people who are obviously of normal or above intelligence but still claim they're religious.
I don't mean this in the sense that I think the big bang is law but it's obvious these people don't really believe there's a deity controlling the flow of life and the universe.

If some retard tells me it's god's will I fully believe they mean it but this doesn't work for smarter people. Ultimately you find out they're just from a religious background and they treat the church like a social club and in order to fit in they have to preach the gospel, but they do not believe.

Why not? Many people who get memed into branding themselves left or right politically stay that way all their lives, and truly believe their position is the correct one. Something that given viewpoint must have resonated with them, even if we just resort to the cheap explanation of dismissing it as indoctrination.

in the vast majority of cases that comes from being closed in their echo chamber and simply not even trying to learn about others' position and views

meanwhile high-ranking priests are usually well educated and know about other religions, also know the historical role of the religion in the society, why religions were created, how they were used to control the population by political and religious leaders and so on
they also know about all contradictions in the Bible and its wrong claims about history/science we now know thanks to scientific development

it's impossible to know about all of this and still believe in one of these ancient religions as true

If by the world you mean the earth then it's perfectly known how it was made.
If you mean the universe then our animal brain is so specific to our surviving conditions we just can't comprehend it.

Maybe for the universe having "something" is the default state and it has always been there even before the big bang.
For animals like us who need to do "something" to get food and survive it's an idea that is completely unnatural and would lead to our deaths.
And if a god was able to emerge from nothing, le science can also do it anyway.

My guess would be that the matter and energy of our universe comes from another one and was transferred during the big bang.
Maybe that other universe doesn't have a concept of time so the concept itself of creating this matter makes no sense there.

Is it though? People tend to conform to whatever views are popular during their times, both in ancient and current times.
