Every castle in Japan was torn down in the Meiji era. Some were rebuilt for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Vietnam, then China and Japan tied, then Korea last.

Ultimately this. SEA has much better architecture. Probably because they didn't have all their shit blown up to the same degree. Kind of.

Maybe I'm biased, but I think Japanese architecture looks the best. While Chinese get points for being the original, their stuff looks quite gaudy, and generally isn't maintained as well as the Japanese architecture.

It's exactly the same in Japan (and everywhere else in the world for that matter) anon. Do you think buildings made of wood and paper can stand in perfect condition for millenia?
All buildings need conservation, even concrete or brick ones. The point is to recreate them in the same style to preserve their historical value.

Same applies to historical buildings everywhere. That's literally what restoration work is, historylets. Read a book

I don't believe anything squids have to say about their country before Japan showed up.

This was just the style of imperial capitals. Forbidden City was pretty late, yeah, but there were many other cities before it build in the same way. In fact Japanese Nara was famously built from scratch as a capital in that style, and that was back in the early VIII century.
That being said, that pavilon on top of a pond looks cool, I really ought to go to Korea one day.
