there is no 'good guy' in history. britain didn't want further westward expansion because wars with the natives were expensive and the colonists already didn't contribute their fair share toward their own defence. likely it would have expanded further if left under british control, but I'm not sure it's certain that a british america would have the same boundaries as comtemporary america does. i reckon we would have seen a similar scramble for the western states later, like in africa, with other european powers controlling smaller portions of the land and britain in the east.
