1. Previously, the Republicans courted the evangelical vote to break up the Democratic Party's voting bloc in the South. Over time, they became integrated into the party's governing structure and went from being highly critical and mistrusting of Israel under Nixon and Reagan to what we've seen since George W Bush. The Democratic Party has been attempting to "court" Republican voters since 2012 and has tried to swerve to the right on multiple issues, especially Israel, so it's created a consensus between so-called true believer Republicans who are adamantly zionist in contrast with their party predecessors but firmly in line with their voter base, and Democrats who are also zionist but in contrast with their voter base.
2. The war on terror made them an obvious choice for America to fund and closely partner with to develop military and mass surveillance technology. Gaza is essentially one big lab for military contractors and artificial intelligence/machine learning companies to test out their products freely before they are deployed elsewhere.
