We do this too in murder or similar cases but i never heard of anyone being called to do this or people being aware that it's done

About 70% of criminal cases end in a plea bargain for a reduced sentence, you only go to trial when you're Diddy and your lawyers feel sure they win.

They don't fire you during the trial. They'll just fire you 2 days after you return because you didn't wipe your shoes off when you came in or some other stupid reason. But that's less of a problem with jury duty and more to do with American labor laws being fucked

The problem is that it's overused as fuck such as in civil court. The one time I was called was for a case deciding ownership/liability between 2 brothers who owned a a couple of laundry shops. Like really you are going to drag a half dozen people around to settle some stupid family drama. I wasn't selected but just listening to the preamble it was absurd that it somehow required a jury.

thats one of the cases where its specificly required to use a jury, its not even taken to the regular court here its a specific property court below them thats fully based on jury decisions. if you give someone right to drive over you land for all eternity but you dont fully do the paperwork off it such a jury of normal people will say thats a you-problem and said someone can continue to drive across your land if you suddenly change your mind.

and if you didnt they have the power to force a settlement where you would have to give xx right of access over your land. its one of the most based institutions we have, they butcher chuds daily. just normal people saying
