That's not how it went, Slovenes had two names, one their birth slavic name and another "german-coded" as you put it to use in official business, but outside of a few deranged larpers here and there they knew they were slavs and kept with their own as the Austrian anon said. There was little mixing as slavs were seen as inferiour. There are also decent number of us Slovenes with surnames of Germain origins, but that's just a thing of a chance, usually the word originating from a profession, in my case I can trace my family history back to early 17th century and they were all slavs despite the surname

Being "balkan" is not about genes or ancestry, it's the people's culture and behavior.
Saying someone has balkan ancestry doesn't mean anything because people from the balkans are a mix of people from north and south that look like anything from scandinavian and finnic to short, brown ratfaced albanians, arabs and gypsies.
Croats came to Burgenland centuries ago, when Slavs came to the balkans after the same amount of time passed we were already forming distinct balkan nations which exist today and we look back at those people and say "these kings and nobles are our Bulgarian, Serbian etc ancestors" and not some Ukies or Poles.
