Why are catholic Slavs unable to make a case for themselves?
For example, Poland is seen as eastern European and close to Russia, while Croatia is seen as Balkan and close to Serbia, despite both trying to prove otherwise for centuries.
Even though I am the hated one on the opposite side, I can't help but feel bad for them.

The same way, Latins do not want Poles or Croats close to them as they're in the end still Slavs. The problem here is the fact that Poles and Croats and to be equal to civilisation-builder Latins. It simply looks stupid to anyone but them.

I won't argue for Croatia because about half of this country is indeed balkan and already within our borders it feels alien to me. Northern Croats were building this nation in the 19. and 20. centuries and they chose to make it in the image of southerners so it fits in the wider yugo and balkan collective which means we only had ourselves to blame.

I didn't say anything wrong really. I didn't say you're Russians, I said you're close to them and futher away from the Latins.
Ukraine is bridge between majority Russian and minority Polish influence yet they integrate into Poland without problems. In a few decades they will all be proud Poles.
Meanwhile, Germans have been in Polish lands for centuries and little assimilation occured.
