It's alright. Similar story for monks brewing beer. They needed a way to fast and also not die so they made this stuff. I drink it every now and then. It's more from Russia and everything east of Bulgaria. Orthodox people around here didn't give a fuck though they drank distilled spirits and actual beer, still do actually.

A Russian immigrant family runs a shop nearby that sells kvass and I used to go there all the time to pick up a few bottles. I can't get enough of this shit, I used to drink soda a lot but this tastes so much better.

This is the only brand of kvass I've ever been able to find in the UK. I really like it, despite the fact that I've been told by Lithuanians that it's mass produced slop.

Kvass is GOATed, I buy mine from a Russian owned store in Vitacura. It's homemade so not identical to the commercial stuff

I've had both and it depends on the brand. Some are sweeter than others but generally yes. Malta Goya is also pretty similar.

here it exists and you can buy in it bigger supermarkets and people know what it is but it's rare to drink it for Poles, unless in very eastern Poland. Probably 90% of kvass consumers here are Ukrainian immigrants

i guess popularity of kvass in your country correlates with how shitty your domestic beer is, the better your beer is, the less popular kvass is

Yeah, I drink it on rare occasions. There is also zbyten', which is halfway between kvas and beer. But it's a very niche drink.

Dried rye bread pieces, water, sugar (you can make with no sugar too) and a bit of yeast or you can use raisin instead of yeast. That's like the base. You can add many different things for different flavours and all.
One of the last kvass I drank was with horseradish, it's quite interesting.

Svagdricka (weak drink) is what we call it. It's hops, rye and sweetend with xylitol (birch sugar) to not ferment into beer.
