Washington is really that insecure?
DC is fine. All American cities have a homeless problem, but for a city the size of DC the homeless population isn’t really that large. It’s just more noticeable because it’s against a backdrop of extreme security, wealth, and power.
DC is part of an area in America referred to informally as “the DMV”. This means DC, Maryland, Virginia. This area also includes Baltimore, which is an actual shithole. A lot of the crime people claim is happening in DC is really happening in the run down ghettos way outside of downtown which are practically part of Baltimore. The biggest issue in DC proper are the thieves and scammers. It’s a massive tourist hotspot spanning an entire city so you get tons of pickpockets, people selling fake tickets, and pan handlers with made up sob stories.
