France is the American of Europe. They do whatever the fuck they want

Germans can't think outside the box, Britain is too sclerotic and mismanaged, Italians Spaniards and other dagos are too stupid

Idk I know tourists have been complaining about France, but all that tells me is that they decided to cut back on being an open air museum and start developing their market outside of exporting tourism. Note the US did this too around the 90s when mass privatization started, prior to the 90s people actually liked Hollywood and associated the US with beach models. Did France start doing the same? Because I used to have the impression that they're a beautiful cultural relic meant to be preserved like some sort of petting zoo, now I view them more like peers.

Yeah and the rest of Europe has always betrayed us, never supporting us or mocking us for trying to be independant. Now that the US cannot be more clear about their intentions and that they obviously won't send soldiers in case Russia attacks, european countries start running around like headless chickens wondering what to do and how and where and why etc etc, it's pathetic. Europe is always lagging behind america and now China too, and we won't get anything done with the current EU. It's all so tiresome, I wish we would just leave the EU and do our own thing.

On those specifically, France has this very autistic but beneficial obsession of "something is successful? well we'll make a French version of that", see Mistral ai.
A lot of it fails but France makes French versions of everything, they've gone through making French google (qwant), French youtube (dailymotion), French netflix (molotov). Those failed but some succeeded like French venmo (lydia) French patreon (tipeee, leetchi), French craigslist (leboncoin), French spotify (deezer), even French onlyfans (mym)

It is a very common trait of French entrepreneurs to just look up an American company and make a French version of it. It often works due to both government grants and more familiarity with the market/ease of recruitment etc.

Correct, we're not going to continue subsidize defense 35 years after the collapse of the USSR, especially considering that Yurope is essentially an entire goddamn cunt of rich, developed, democratic cunts. Meanwhile look Asia, which is basically just Japan and Korea surrounded by batshit insane authoritarian neighbors while the rest are third world shit holes

Macron announced 109 billion € investment in AI recently.
It is mostly data centers.

However there are also 8.5 billion € being invested in partnership with Nvidia for a "megacampus" so basically an ai start-to-finish chain which will allow France to run AI by itself, independently of USA if need be. It is treated as a strategic asset to ensure sovereignty, much like nuclear weapons for example.

Because Degaulle refused to cuck to the American supremacy after WW2 like the Brits, Germans, and Italians did. They refused to lean on America so they’re the only European country that can still, largely, stand on their two feet, with the only other countries being Sweden and to some extent Switzerland, but both of those are kind of irrelevant. The germs got crushed, the Brits gave up their empire when the Americans told them to, and the Spanish and Portuguese folded under the weight of their fascist corruption and Communist supplied weaponry. Only the French managed to keep more than a vestige of their empire, and they did it by telling the Amis that if they tried to force them they would side with the soviets, so the Americans largely left them alone, and their army/intelligence services were powerful enough to keep their African empire until literally the last five years.

You added "with the US" yourself, it doesn't have to be competitive with the US specifically but in the broader world market it is. And specifically it is competitive in satellite manufacturing.
Anonymous France No.213793500
>>213793072
Up until 2009-2010 and SpaceX catching up France was by far the single biggest launcher of commercial satellites since the mid-70s. It hasn't been a great decade but we're developing an alternative to starlink, already have an alternative to the GPS system, the US leading the space market is relatively recent and not bound to last (the Chinese are ramping it up too)

You need way more than 8.5 billion euros for that. That will barely buy you a fab.
Anonymous Romania No.213793648
>>213793540
Fair enough the "start to finish chain" in the article i was going from is misleading, France is still sourcing the chips from Taiwan, it's the rest of the chain that will be done locally.

i know there is a french producer of damn good welding machines and you can buy them here but they simply dont come up over esab or kemppi and the american brands if you google it.
Anonymous Romania No.213798644

>you dont want to
Well it's hard enough trying to fill the niches in your own domestic market, so trying to compete for 1st spot with Americans and Chinese in non-Francophone markets is maybe asking a little bit much.

>i know there is a french producer of damn good welding machines and you can buy them here but they simply dont come up over esab or kemppi and the american brands if you google it.
For example this would probably involve hiring a Scandinavian SEO expert for the Scandinavia region with allocated SEO budget etc, for a welding machine manufacturer, the investment isn't necessarily the most sensible one they could make in my opinion. How many employees do they even have in the first place ?

France is great in many ways, but they're also not in many others.
They're one of the few European countries where protests are chimpouts for example and their national debt levels are out of line.
I'd still rather be Germany than France overall, but the ideal would combine the strengths of each while shedding the weaknesses.
Britbongs aren't even in the race due to brexit retardation.

datacenters, there is a big bet that you need big server farms that fold data a trillion times to make the AI good
I think it's a bit of a guess, considering the chinese showed that will some thought you can save tons on the servers if you just try to be efficient.
It could be that having big datacenters isn't the deciding factor, but government can't affect those things as easily as they can facilitate making datacenters, so datadenters it is.
