Many classical jurists say that you can do Fajr at the closest manageable time OR pick a day of the year with moderate prayer times OR just do Mecca time to account for more extreme latitudes. You don't need to be getting/staying up at 2:40am if it isn't reasonable. Hope this helps brother

It balances out in winter when the days are shorter. If Ramadan falls in winter, then they only need to fast a few hours. I once fasted in Australia in summer when I was a kid. That was an ordeal waking up at 4am and breaking fast at 9pm.
