they won against england, achieved their goals in vietnam in the end by keeping parts of vietnam free from communism, which meant it did eventually democratically disappear.
they got rid of saddam like they wanted, killed gadaffi like they wanted, killed bin laden like they wanted, achieved their goals in ww2 ousting hitler and ending japanese expansionism together with europe.

their failures are usually caused by being on an island far away from everyone else, its an herculean task to commit to wars logistically, and its even harder to quickly respond to rapidly changing facts on the ground if it usually takes hours for you to arrive.

The Sino-Soviet split happened well before the Vietnam War heated up and we directly got involved, if anything the issue of the Vietnam War was what kept the two from actually fighting each other.
