I'm 31 years old. When I was a kid in the 90's, you could get a large fish & chips for less than a tenner. Enough to feed two people, easily. Last week, I ordered a regular cod & chips. Only enough for me. £16. No fucking shit chippies are closing down left, right and centre. This was always working man's food. Cheap, hearty and filling. It's become stupidly expensive over the last few decades. Our economy has been in terminal decline for a while now and the average Brit is much poorer today, than we were 20-30 years ago. For many, fish & chips has become a borderline luxury food.

It's easy to say that in hindsight. Things have undoubtedly gotten worse since Brexit (although I don't think the blame can be laid entirely on Brexit), but the mood in 2016 was very different. Like the anon who replied to you said, there was a genuine sense amongst many Leavers that we had nothing to lose. Brexit would spark something within our national psyche and act as a kind of reset from decades of managed decline. We might even be able to reclaim some of our lost glory. People like me saw through the bullshit from the very beginning, and voted to remain, but even we didn't forsee thinks getting quite this bad, less than a decade after the vote.

Brexit didn't change anything noticeably and literally every western European country faces the same challenges and problems the UK does, just the UK is more highlighted in the news because more people speak English and are exposed to the English-language media.

I really, really, REALLY wish that more people understood this. The US & the UK are the two most scrutinized nations on the planet. We're under the spotlight 24/7, especially in the age of social media. It's beyond farcical when you have, for example, Scandinavian zoomers taking part in British food memes, for no other reason than that they grew up on a steady diet of online Amerislop.

I’m not leaving my home but I do understand why people feel helpless because it’s just not England anymore. I’m from a ‘diverse’ area and I’m in the minority as a native. Between Africans, Muslims and Indians it’s swamped with people who don’t belong here and hold contempt for the ethnic English yet have been able to reproduce for generations now and think it’s their home too. How do you even begin to combat that? I feel foreign in the only country I can call home and the government and a large amount of the public hate the native population and want even more foreigners. If it were a matter of working harder or towards a common goal it’d be a lot simpler but how can you when the population is so fractured? When not only are invaders with no respect or any basic decency coming by the boatload each day, the ‘legal’ ones still largely don’t integrate and even if they did, I don’t want to live in a town where I’m the minority in my own country. They don’t even like each other.

I'm Black, born and raised here in a 99% White town, almost all of my friends were White. This country has absolutely failed to integrate a staggeringly high amount of its immigrants. Muslims have been left to their own devices to form their own ghettos and force their own barbaric sharia laws.

If it were up to my, Muslims and Jews would have never been allowed to come to Britain, any foreigner who commits a crime here should be immediately deported, small-boats migrants should be immediately deported, furthermore, immigrants should have to change their first names to ones which are common in Britain (e.g no Muslim names), and they would have to name their children British names too.

Same boat here. It's absolutely mental to be the only native when I take a bus or train, seeing people fight for seats when there's old folks standing, not being able to commute in peace since people are either blasting music, scrolling social media without headphones, shouting on the phone or invading my privacy by having videocalls.

This is all done deliberately by the government and corporations to bring in new sheep who will vote for them and work for a bowl of peanuts. The so called left is okay with native workers losing their jobs to people who are okay with earning way less, while the right criminalizes these people while they bring them in by the millions.

I get the vibes blacks, at least early on, were actually somewhat integrating pretty well with lower class brits. Like I seen a clip from lower class british youth giving an interview saying "yeah we not racist or nothing, we like sleeping with the blacks, just those Pakis we don't like." And the Windrush generation seemed to have high intermarriage rates with whites.

Seems that shit's changed though and British blacks have become sorta like the American ones with.

The political climate in the early 2010s wasn't as pessimistic as it is today, despite the UK still struggling to recover from the GFC and unemployment being around 7-8%. Market crashes happen, they're expected events that happen on a cyclical basis, and I don't think many people thought we were in for 15+ years of continual stagnation and decline over time.

Standards of living are genuinely worse now than they were ten years ago, but there's also more bitterness after Brexit, and I think David Cameron's famous "tens of thousands" immigration speech is still ringing in people's ears. The news stories and people's fears feed on each other, leading to the appearance of more pessimistic articles.
