Have any of you guys ever learned or attempted to learn a "useless" language? Why did you do it? Do you regret it?

I attempted to learn Turkish because I became autistically drawn to central Asian steppe cultures and it seemed the only semi relevant language. It went alright as I already speak 3 languages but I will never be conversational in it due to difficult. But it did manage me to get laid in Istanbul because nobody bothers learning their language and women like it when you try

I have taken many programming classes and it’s beyond me how people enjoy it. It’s not like I was bad at it either.

I haven't attempted, but I explored Korean, Hebrew and Latin. I generally find most languages cool with some exceptions. Realistically speaking, any language is useless unless you need it. If for some reason you move to Korea, then Korean language becomes important for your life. If you move to America, Korean is useless.

Yes I have learned French, Old Norse and Japanese to varying abilities and have attempted to learn German, Latin, Classical Chinese and Russian

Yeah I regret starting Japanese but it's too late now, I have major sunk cost fallacy right now

i learned german at school, i guess it was kinda relevant back then but totally useless today. the other options for 3rd language was french and spanish, they would all be better. should have learned polish or russian.

why would Spanish be better? at least with German you have great literature and philosophy

google the number of spanish speakers vs the number of german speakers. also as a norwegian you can read a german instrucktion sheet its just weird but understandable. i can still do that in spanish to some degree but only due to me having realized its a relevant language and i better try to understand it.
if you are called out to serve some italian or spanish made industrial ac unit you bet the norwegian, swedish or english instructions are gone and you have to make due with the spanish, french or italian ones.

Yep, I've been learning japanese, despite the fact that I don't consume or care about the culture.
>Why did you do it? Do you regret it?
I have always wanted to learn a language that is completely different from my own, and I have the time, so why not?
And no, I don't regret it, it's been quite fun actually.

I guess programming just isn't for everyone.
I actually started with python, and I hated every second of it, then I moved to C and suddenly it just clicked, and I started loving programming.
You could try to code some basic projects, just for fun.
I think that most people don't who don't like programming, don't like it because they don't understand it.

Esperanto is being a language nerd but for low IQers. It’s like trying to show off that you can speak some weird language but the language is so easy it’s not even impressive. I respect the dead language nerds not the Esperautists. And the whole Esperanto community is a huge cringefest. The whole idea of Esperanto is to be neutral and cultureless to allow people of different groups to use it as a lingua Franca but now “Esperantists” think they have their own culture I think it’s basically communism. Also languages naturally evolve so ofc there are now different factions of Esperanto.
