Pay a guy to hardmod it for you by soldering a component. Modding it won’t alter the os permanently I think, you can turn it off and reboot to play online.

I thought about nodding my Xbox 360 so I could play pirated games, but it's apparently super complicated like you have to take things apart and solder

You can get a switch emulator on your pc and install any mods and games from there too. It’s more fun to play games with mods on its intended hardware like that pokemon platinum remake mod, animal crossing with better qol, ssbu with additional characters, and also to play emulated games on the go. I was thinking if I should get a Switch 2 now for potential use in modding in the future.

Modding your switch should be safe if you have an sd card and install all the custom software there, keeping it separate from your actual switch hardware to play online when rebooting to the vanilla os.
