But being seriously old is no joke—I’m middle-aged and already starting to feel it, and my mother is seriously elderly and suffers for it, although she only talks about how much it sucks obliquely. My father had the arguable good sense to die young. Had he made it to what is now my mom’s age, I’m sure he’d be foul-tempered about it.

Its still a total gamble. I know two people in their 90s who smoked themselves up to that age and are still alive. They both went total cold turkey as well and didn't even get fucked up by it.
