Advance the flag of Dixie
Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Dixie's Land we'll take our stand
To live and die for Dixie
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie
To arms! To arms!
And conquer peace for Dixie
Oh, hear the Northern thunders mutter
Northern flags in South winds flutter
To arms, to arms, to arms, in Dixie!
Send them back your fierce defiance
Stamp upon the cursed alliance
To arms, to arms, to arms, in Dixie!

Getting tired of the civil wars and unrest in the peninsula. I'm going to Cuba and I'll invest my life savings there. Hopefully I'll get enough return to have a good retirement in about 35 years.

Another economic collapse? Politicians screaming at each other while not fixing things around? Sure, whatever, I just hope the Spain of the future is better than this...
IMy left leg and both of my brothers are buried under the soil of Virginia. I return to my home town a hapless cripple subsiding on such charity as generous folks will offer me.

The idea California was built up and people lived there while the civil war was happening far away is kind of a neat aspect of US history I don't think about much

This a great relationship we will have in the future, I assure you. Spain never forgives grudges, even if takes 200 for us to get revenge, but we always reward those who do us good, and America is shaping up to become great friends of us. >>213858087
Hope you lose the war.

As of this Fourth of July, the mighty Mississippi stands free and open from end to end. The defeat of your cause is but a matter of time, Cletus.

California was very rapidly settled during the Gold Rush and San Francisco transformed from an insignificant Spanish fishing village to a bustling metropolis almost overnight. At this time it is the largest city in the state not Los Angeles which won't really become a major city until the 20th century. The push for the trans-continental railroad was in part to establish a direct physical connection between the West Coast and the rest of the country and ward off any potential thoughts those states had of seceding.

SoCal (including most of the Hispanic population) was more pro-Confederate while NorCal was Unionist, and Henry Sibley's Confederate expedition from Texas in early 1862 was intended to reach California. However as the state government was based in Sacramento in the north there was no serious danger of the state seceding.

California and Oregon recruited several volunteer regiments mainly for constabulary duties as regular army units were sent east. None of these regiments left their respective states, but quite a few Californians went east on their own volition to volunteer for both sides' armies.

The Western boys, they talk a good game about having captured Vicksburg but they only fought a weak, half-starved Rebel army. Bobby Lee were he in Mississippi would have lifted the siege of the town and routed them out of the state.
DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES
ÜBER ALLES IN DER WELT
WENN ES STEHTS ZU SCHUTZ UND TRUTZE
BRÜDERLICH ZUSAMMEN HÄLT
VON DER MAAS BIS AN DIE MEMEL
VON DER ETSCH BIS AN DEN BELT
DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES ÜBER ALLES IN DER WELT
This war was a mistake. Your brothers and sons have been sacrificed on the battlefield for the mania of a handful of race amalgamationists in the Republican Party! We demand peace at once!

ES BRAUST EIN RUF WIE DONNERHALL,
WIE SCHWERTGEKLIRR UND WOGENPRALL:
ZUM RHEIN, ZUM RHEIN, ZUM DEUTSCHEN RHEIN!
WER WILL DES STROMES HÜTER SEIN?
LIEB’ VATERLAND, MAGST RUHIG SEIN, LIEB’ VATERLAND, MAGST RUHIG SEIN,
FEST STEHT UND TREU DIE WACHT, DIE WACHT AM RHEIN,
FEST STEHT UND TREU DIE WACHT, DIE WACHT AM RHEIN!

I say Hooker looks as if he may actually do the job, he has done wonders to improve morale and get the boys proper food and bedding. They have also stopped deserting at a rate of 1,000 every week.

Damn Fritzes. We have enough of them in the army and they lose every battle they get into. Kindly take your countrymen back, we don't want them.
>>213859027
The miserable Dutchmen failed us again in the great battle at the Chancellorsville clearing two weeks ago. But for those scoundrels we would already be in Richmond.

Apparently in Missouri and oh I have to go, my cavalry company sets out this afternoon for provost guard duty in Memphis. There is a haul of Rebel prisoners coming in tomorrow that have to be guarded.
I'm a solid Rhode Island man but by God do I hope that Lincoln sends all the niggers back to Liberia after the Rebels are defeated. No reason to keep them here.

We found these rifles of yours highly unsatisfactory, half the ones we purchased were used in the war with France several years ago and are beaten up and fit only for scrap. The rest can't hit the side of a barn (surely that has nothing to do with the fact that we don't have the correct ammo type for them).
I have nothing left. The Yankees took my pigs and chickens, took my furniture, took my wife's jewelry, our colored servant ran off and declared himself free the moment they showed up, our only son was killed in the fighting around Richmond last summer.

Our cause may as yet succeed should the Democrats regain the Northern presidency next year. If the Republican race amalgamationists are returned to power, alas I believe we are doomed. The Congressional elections last fall went against the Republicans so it seems a promising sign.
God help me I cannot saw off another mangled limb yet the pitiful creatures keep coming begging me to remove their wounded arm or leg before gangrene sets in.

At Gettysburg, no? What a horror to befall that poor town. The locals told me it was not until September when the fetid smell of decomposing bodies at last dissipated from around there.
Feller up'a'holler done got hunged by the secesh last week. Heared that rebs bolloxed up the fight up in pensuhvanie. Hope the war ends soon. Kentucky has suffered enough. Half of us are secesh and half of us are union men.
>>213860669
nobody's going to turn down moar bullet sponges and we have a seemingly infinite supply of replacement bodies coming over from Europe every month while Johnny doesn't. Each of their boys we shoot can't be replaced.
>>213860701 >Heared that rebs bolloxed up the fight up in pensuhvanie
We licked 'em twice now when they tried to come up north, but only the Almighty himself knows if this army will ever win a fight in Virginia.
>>213860804
You numbskull, every foreigner we bring over who doesn't die fighting Jim Davis will be a plague upon our houses until the Second Coming. The Democrats will win this war, one way or another.
>>213860701
that's nothing compared to what's going down in Missouri. Every week down here some feller gets hanged from a tree or shot by guerillas. My neighbor had his house set on fire last week because his son is serving in Grant's army down in Mississippi. Hopefully we catch and shoot the varmits who did this.
Why does the Eastern army need to change generals after every battle it fights? They had just gotten rid of Hooker a few days before the great battle in Pennsylvania. Their leadership is truly appalling compared to what we are used to in the West.
>>213861379
Naval duty is relaxed and carefree. Good food and little to do but sit on a ship for weeks at a time anchored outside Southern ports. I pity the fellers marching in the mud and rain and having to be shot at constantly.
>>213860636
Philippines? I haven't a clue where that is, I assume it's somewhere near South America. My cousin is in the merchant marine, perhaps I will ask him when he returns from his current voyage down there. If he doesn't die of yellow fever anyway.
