Russia's issue is that they actually believe that they're a superpower and try to act like it. They try to do everything in house and domsetic, when they really should be outsourcing stuff and buying from other countries instead of trying to do everything themselves.

Once the heat dies down from the Ukraine war, they will likely just buy ships from China instead

>I don't think they (the leadership) actually believe it, but they want to posture like it

Nah, they actually do believe it. They throw crazy amount of money at fucking wunderweapons that they can't afford, and it's fucking them in the ass. Why spend billions developing something like GLONASS when you can piggyback off BeiDou for much less cost and for better performance too. They also spend billions developing the SU-57, only to produce like 12 white elephants, when they could have bought a few 5th gens from China. It's everywhere you look. They still have fucking plans for shit like stealth bombers, 6th gen fighters, nuclear cruise missile etc etc. Even if they can afford the R&D, it's clear that Russia cannot afford to mass produce it. They would be better off just focusing their limited industry on mid tier equipment and just buying high end stuff from China for a lower price.

>not sure China would be ok for this open support yet though.

Once the war ends and the sanctions start to die down. To be honest, if China openly started to ship Russia large amounts of equipment, Russia would be doing so much better in Ukraine. Putin must be going crazy knowing that China has thousands of tanks and fighters that are just sitting around doing, while the Russian army is sending electric scooters to the frontlines.

The government sometimes comes up with some new vaporware (planes, tanks, whatever else) to impress the populace and show the outside world they are still relevant.
In reality, that stuff never gets made.

There are hardly any Sukhoi Su-57s out there. I would not expect anything different for submarines.

It could have happened in an alternate reality:

>doesn't dick around in Eastern Ukraine
>after some years of low tier sanctions
>allows Ukraine to sign whatever treaty with the EU in 2014
>Europeans get tired of Ukraine being super corrupt and a poor shithole that cannot pay back a single loan

Their economy cannot continue on at this rate. And even if they're stronger, so what? They're failing to take Ukraine, they would immediately run into a stone wall if they actually went up vs any NATO force.

>I don't think China is ready to take on the US yet, they are still building up.

China is currently just trying to push America away from their backyard. They're just arming up enough to ensure that America can't get within 2000km of China. China cannot win in a direct war vs America. But like Russia, they can present enough of a threat that America won't directly fight them.

The only reason Russia got territory back from Japan is because it joined the war against Japan right at the very end and Japan had no other options being totally obliterated by the USA.

Not really it would have needed a complete retrofit. All the really good heavy hitting industry aside from those that were saved by their governments in former USSR went to shit and to decay and abandonment, our nuclear power plant brings tears to my eyes when I remember it how dogshit negotiations were with the g*rms and what a band of limpwristed politicians were sent, fun fact all other former USSR or Warsaw pact cunts still run their old soviet reactors with retrofits, there are 10 RBMK's running with no issue to this day. Now concerning the plan I don't know we had a discussion with a rusanon before the invasion, desuarchive is down can't link it. By my armchair general analysis I expected them to invade so to not look as cucks but I thought they would have pushed heavily from the east and reach a natural demarcation line that is the dnieper, I really didn't expect the whole rush keev thing.

Have you looked at any polls recently? People are not willing to die for their own country, yet alone for other countries
