Nobody outside of Brasil thinks Latin American is a 1:1 synonym for Hispanic. Portuguese is a Latin-based language. Brasil speaks it in the Americas. You're Latin American, as am I (born in a French overseas territory in the Americas, living in a French speaking quarter of the Americas). You're also Ibero-American, whereas I am not. Neither of us is Hispanic American.
