ive only worked retail for a year but its taught me that shoplifting is insanely common
just everywhere all the time and its not even just the fact i live in a shithole area
its getting way worse though, even in the year i've been there
some of the old women at my work whove been there 20+ years say its really bad recently, because people are becoming aware that absolutely nothing will happen even if you get caught
all you need to shoplift is a total lack of shame

police are too busy policing shit that gets in the media
the only time theyve ever turned up is when some little runt pulled a knife cause violent crime still gets them involved, they turned up like a military operation but he was long gone
wildly, when the same kid comes in a week later and we called the cops to say hey the knife wielding guy is back here they refused to come because we hadnt yet seen a knife this time

the police dont investigate crime, they either look for crime in progress or go out of their way to bait it like those joggers that made headlines baiting catcalls in the uk recently
when an actual crime is commited, even one as serious as assault with a deadly weapon, they take a report, file it, and only come back to it if they arrest the guy on some other occasion so they can add it to the charges
cops are useless, all the good ones have quit because they dont wanna spend their days arresting people for mean internet comments or speeding
