I enjoyed this video. I got a couple visits from a truancy officer as a kid but it never amounted to much. A lot of young men could do with a kick up the backside, with how absent or limp-dicked their dad's can be. I know I could have used it at his age. He'll appreciate the experiences when he's older.

This is not the military iirc. Parents pay them to reform their kids. It's not for adults either I don't think. I'm not sure why they're in uniform or why they're allowed to be. Maybe they collaborate with the military or they're ex-military. Probably just for discipline purposes. I would say the parents need to step up, or needed to when the kids were younger (probably hard well into teens). If he goes back home, and nothing's changed, he'll easily slip back into it. Most people want to change, or are able to recognise things are better once they've changed, so it's not a mentality issue exactly. The issue is habits and an environment that allows poor ones. Surface mentality follows from this. The physical things at the camp are probably enjoyable, for most young men they would be satisfying and build confidence, but that doesn't really translate to the habits needed for 'work ethic' for school and work. Resembling the military doesn't mean it works very well for the reality of life. A strict school and parents or authorities that force him to attend is a lot better. This would be a good starting point for that, for the kids who are actually belligerent which is probably none of these.

Possible. Some people can't handle it, especially if they end up in a too tough branch or get bullied a lot. I'd say the mental capacity is the real lynchpin there, a physically weak guy can still crawl through a physically less demanding position like logistics as long as his head can take it. I knew a guy who could have skipped the whole thing due to medical issues who became a sergeant.
