They're getting economically stronger but unless they have $200k jobs, it wouldn't be worth it for Indians to go there.
The only reason they come here on H1B visas to live in closets for $300 a month with 10 other guys while saving all their money is because three years working here for $200k is enough to retire them in India.

We have a bunch of indian grad students in our department, but other universities have a higher share of them (+postdocs).
They barely speak spanish (if at all), so although we all speak english at work, they often retreat to social groups where english is the unofficial language

Agreed. And with their birth rates in decline, they'll need to supplement their demographics somehow, so Indians are the right option.
