wrong. in an arms race, capability to utter demolish a nation’s entire financial and military grid is what matters. In ‘87, China had amassed <300 nuclear warheads ready for launch. Taiwan’s potentially limited stockpile wouldn’t have exceeded 10 from what i’ve seen, alongside the fact that Taiwan didn’t have an ICBM, making it far harder to pose themselves as a legitimate, existential threat to the PRC. meanwhile the PRC drops two nukes, one on Taipei and the other Chiashan and Taiwan’s done for. i’m not a PRC shill btw, but when it comes to MAD, the ability to utter dismantle your enemy with your stockpile matters, that’s WHY the arms race happened in the first place
