No country has ever actually allowed depopulation to run its course in the long run, they all caved to mass migration before the population ever significantly dipped.
Even Japan only experienced a dip of 5 million from its all time high before it now started allowing migration.

The only example I can think of for cotinued depopulation is Ireland and as we can see there, they were still able to rise later and become a good country again.
Which they probably wouldn't have been able to do if they had frantically tried to replace the lost population with brownoids from all over the world
