I don't care if this is a bait thread. I must vent. Northeast used to be so chill, bros! I would ride my mike back home late at 11pm after playing soccer with the boys for three hours after class. Then all of the sudden drug dealers just took over it overnight.
My dad used to work with police training on drug prevention, so I was a target. I got robbed twice the same week. They came to our house and threatened to kill my mom and brother and rape my sister. The police arrived and they ran away (for reference, we lived in a far off ranch). They came on a different day when my sister was alone. She called the police again. There was no way to keep living under the stress. Dad folded and quit his job. We moved out.
It was a small town and the police was awfully unprepared to deal with the sheer scale of the operation. Now, it seems they are everywhere. I haven't gone back in over a decade and I miss my Bahia so much... but everybody who's still there keeps telling me not to go back.
